Monday: Videos will be posted by 8:00amEST on Monday of every week through the Outschool portal via e-mail. Each week a of video will be shared in the classroom providing students with step-by-step instruction for the skills we'll be focusing on. Students can work at a time that is convenient for them. Wednesday: Assignments will need to be submitted by Wednesday 8:00am EST of that week.. Assignments will be submitted through flipgrid.com or video to the instructor's e-mail. This platform of video sharing will allow the students to interact with each other and comment to each other works through performance. It will also provide a way for students to see others performing the same work so they may learn from one another. Students will have a performance example and a theory assignment based on the week's lesson. As the class progresses, there will be review questions and performances for Mastery learning. A comment/ suggestion for each performer will be due as part of their weekly assignment due on Fridays. Teacher will post comments/ suggestions/corrections back to the student no later then Friday 8:00am EST of that week. These comments will include ways to improve their performances and corrections to the theory worksheet. This will also be a discussion period were students may ask questions and pose comments about the topics of the week. Students will have the ability to comment on each other's work and create dialogue through the platforms. There will be NO LIVE instruction. They will need to purchase the Standard of Excellence, Book 1 for their assignments. Students will have the opportunity to meet with teacher for a live chat if it is scheduled in advance (24 hours+ notice). Week 1- Instruction of "basic" alto saxophone needs- including but not limited to the following: hand position, embouchure, note names for the first 4 notes, basic rhythms (whole, half and quarter notes/ rests). Performance of simple songs. Week 2- Instruction of saxophone upkeep and how to use a swab We will continue to learn musical concepts in song (repeat sign, key signature, time signature, counting, etc) Week 3- We will add the new notes of D and E-flat; also perform them through simple songs. Week 4- We will begin to add warm-ups and long tones for tuning, while continue to add simple songs with the notes we have learned. Introduction to the right hand notes by using proper hand position and embouchure. We will learn the finger position for F.

I have over 20 years experience teaching public school and private lessons. I have a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the Crane School of Music (SUNY Potsdam), and a Master of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana- Champaign.
I am currently a 7/8th grade instrumental music teacher in New York State.
