In this class learners will work on their letters in the alphabet. First, we will focus on letter recognition by naming every letter in the alphabet along with its correlating sound. After this we will play a game where learners will match beginning sounds of words to the beginning sound of Disney characters. In each session we will focus on three letters at a time. At the end of the lesson, learners will work on handwriting as I guide them through letter formation. I will attach a sheet that will match what I use during our lesson.

I will use a PowerPoint to display everything to them. We will interact by using thumbs up and down along with their verbal responses. Learners will also be able to

ALPHABET . . . I will lead learners in naming each letter of the alphabet with their correlating sound in alphabetical order.

MATCHING BEGINNING SOUNDS . . . Each session will be centered around three letters being symbolized by three Disney characters. I will give the learners words, one at a time, and they will name the character that matches the same beginning sound. This is a phonemic awareness skill known as alliteration (the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words). Phonemic awareness is the ability to notice, think about, and work with the individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words. Manipulating the sounds in words includes blending, stretching, or otherwise changing words. Here is an article to further dive into phonemic awareness and its importance in regards to learners reading. https://www.readingrockets.org/teaching/reading-basics/phonemic#:~:text=Phonemic%20awareness%20is%20the%20ability,stretching%2C%20or%20otherwise%20changing%20words.

HANDWRITING . . . At the end of each session, I will lead learners in letter formation. We will focus on the letters that were focused on during the matching game.

Orientación para padres
Parents, these links are fully at your discretion as they are just supplementary to what we will do during class time. I placed these here for parent, not learner accessibility. The resource that I use at the end of the lesson for handwriting as I guide them through letter formation has great letter by letter handwriting sheets. This resource is on Teachers Pay Teachers and is $8. I do believe that you will need to make an account to make purchases on Teachers Pay Teachers. To get this creator’s packet for more handwriting practice, please follow this link . . . https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Sky-Grass-Dirt-Alphabet-Formation-Practice-Sheets-and-Letter-Formation-Rhymes-5072182 OPTIONAL HOMEWORK . . . Practice writing the letters that we worked on today. Below I will link some things that can be used to work on this. SKY, GRASS, DIRT ALPHABET PRACTICE SHEETS . . . Feel free to get the writing resource that I am using by following this link. This is not my personal resource, but I use it in my kindergarten classroom a lot. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Sky-Grass-Dirt-Alphabet-Formation-Practice-Sheets-and-Letter-Formation-Rhymes-5072182 ABCYA . . . I would advise playing this game on a device that is a touch screen. ABCYA is free on a computer/laptop, but if you are using a tablet, then you will have to purchase a subscription. https://www.abcya.com/games/letter_trace

This mimics different methods that I use in my actual classroom from day to day. Usually during small group reading time, I have some groups who do the first 2 elements from this lesson. The handwriting element is usually performed during our writing time of day and they work on it independently during reading centers and during independent writing time.
