Why is it important for children to learn about feelings and emotions? There are a number of important reasons for children to recognize their feelings, some of these include maintaining healthy boundaries with others: including siblings, friends, and family; be able to show respect to others, be able to express themselves appropriately. When children begin to understand the reasons behind their feelings, they can learn how to better cope with any negative feelings. When a child has negative feelings they can turn into negative behaviors, so recognizing a negative feeling can help stop negative thoughts. The first step in recognizing any feelings is to learn about emotions and start recognizing emotions in others. In this class I will teach the basic emotions in a kid friendly and safe way, students will not only learn about these emotions, but they will learn to recognize these emotions in themselves and in others. I will use a variety of tools to help them learn. I will introduce them to the zones of regulation to help them learn how to recognize their own emotions and feelings, and tools to help them cope if they are experiencing negative feelings. I will engage with the students with fun and exciting tools, I will have character cards to help them recognize emotions. We will use books and songs to keep them engaged. This class is meant to be engaging, interactive and fun to help students learn about social emotional development. This is a multi-day class, so we will meet four times throughout one week. See the schedule below to learn more about what each meeting will entail.
