Estudio de la unidad de literatura británica sobre las aventuras de Alicia en el país de las maravillas

En este curso de 5 lecciones, los estudiantes leerán y analizarán la historia, descubrirán quién era la "verdadera" Alice y todo sobre la vida y la obra de Lewis Carrol. Utilizando el método IEW, también se cubrirá la redacción de ensayos persuasivos.

Each lesson is broken up into several short video segments for students to watch at their own pace. There are corresponding questions using the Pear Deck platform as the read/watch. (I include an approved movie link for learners who would rather not read the book- and no, it's not the Disney version!) There is a fun vocabulary activity that compares Victorian English words to what we might say today. The mini essay is broken up into small, bite sized steps. I will assess each step and give feedback. Slow and steady wins this race! At the end, a final essay will be turned in and graded using an IEW rubric that the students will have access to beforehand.

5 Lecciones
más de 5 semanas
Lección 1:
Down the Rabbit Hole
In Lesson 1, we will be either reading/watching an approved version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and answering some corresponding questions to check comprehension. This is the BEST lesson, in my opinion!
Lección 2:
Charles Who?
In Lesson 2, we will explore the life and times of Lewis Carrol (which isn't his real name). What was going on with this young man? Who was the real Alice? How did a magic nun lend to parts of the story? There's a lot of fun tid-bits to unpack in this lesson. We will also discuss the choice of vocabulary he uses and complete a fun activity on those words.

Lección 3:
A Mini Persuasive Essay Part 1
Using the IEW method of writing, students will practice how to construct a persuasive literary analysis essay. What is the difference between the book report of their younger days and a literary analysis? We will go step by step with thesis creation, outlining and proper citation methods using either MS Word or Google docs.
Lección 4:
A Mini Persuasive Essay Part 2
Continuing on our mini essay construction, students will practice dressing-up their sentences and paragraphs, formatting papers into MLA style and creating a Works Cited page. Rough drafts will be assessed amd returned to make sure nothing has been missing.

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am a certified IEW teacher and have used this method to homeschool my own children who have successfully completed college composition and literature courses. (Hurray!) I have taught British Literature in traditional classrooms, co-ops for homeschooling students, via google meet classes and around my own kitchen table. I have a degree in HS Social Studies Ed, but over the years, have gradually changed my teaching focus to all things literature and writing.
