In this 1:1 class, students receive individualized help on this specific Algebra topic:  Combining integers (positive and negative numbers).  This includes the following:
◼  adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers; examples include -3 + 8, 2 - 7, -4 - 11
◼  multiplying and dividing positive and negative numbers; examples include 8 · -7, -4 · 5, -1 · -6, -36 ÷ 6, 28 ÷ -7, -14 ÷ -2

Learners in Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 use these types of problems extensively.  

Prerequisite knowledge:  Learners should already be familiar with the concept of positive and negative numbers and have been taught the conceptual aspect of what it means to do operations with integers.

I'll walk them through the exact how-to process, step-by-step.

Students will need to be able to annotate on the screen during the class.  This is a very interactive class, with student engagement crucial to success.

I use scaffolded instruction, which simply means that I provide more support at the beginning and gradually students work more and more independently with each new problem.  I provide guidance and feedback throughout the lesson.
