Algebra I is the foundation for all other math courses you can take and future science, computer science, or business courses. Algebra is a cumulative subject, which means that each new concept builds on the last one. Algebra is about finding patterns and then working with patterns with symbols, tables, graphs, and words. Modeling and problem solving are at the heart of the curriculum. In Algebra 1 you will also practice explaining your reasoning in writing and in front of your classmates. Students will spend a great deal of class time working on practice problems as well as learning new material. Frequent mistakes are expected, and in many instances, necessary, to help students further explore concepts and deepen their understanding. We will be utilizing powerpoint, and google classroom where I will provide all the material for them. Including worksheets, check in problems to check our knowledge. Unit three and four is about quadratics, irrational numbers, absolute value and piecewise functions. We will focus on each topic in depth to fully understand materials. I will provide check in "quizzes" before we move on to make sure students are on track. TOPIC: Quadratics: Multiplying & factoring Week 1: Multiplying monomials and binomials. Also will talk about Special products of binomials Week 2: Introduction to factoring, Factoring quadratics and talk about Strategy in factoring quadratics TOPIC: Quadratic functions & equations Week 3: Intro to parabolas, Solving and graphing with factored form Week 4: Solving by taking the square root, Vertex form Week 5: The quadratic formula, Quadratic standard form and Features & forms of quadratic functions Week 6: Completing the square intro, Strategizing to solve quadratic equations TOPIC: Irrational Numbers Week 7: Irrational numbers in depth Week 8: Sums and products of rational and irrational numbers Week 9: Proofs concerning irrational numbers TOPIC: Absolute Value and Piecewise Functions Week 10: Graphs of absolute value functions Week 11: Piecewise functions Week 12: Review on topics we may need to touch base, and answer any questions about mathematics.
