In this impactful class, students will learn about the tragic bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 15, 1963. This devastating event, which claimed the lives of four young girls—Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson, Cynthia Wesley, and Denise McNair—marked a dark moment in American history. It is crucial to remember this event as it represents a critical and painful chapter in our nation's past. By exploring the bombing and its aftermath, students will understand why this history must never be forgotten. This lesson will help them appreciate the importance of acknowledging such tragedies to prevent similar acts of violence in the future and to promote justice and equality. Though the bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church was a tragic event, it is imperative that we remember and reflect on this crucial moment in American history. This class aims to honor the victims and ensure that their story and the lessons from this dark time remain a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to fight against racism and uphold justice. Sometimes classes can go over 5 minutes. I allow each student, if they chose, to ask questions and answer questions. I also allow them to respectfully express their feelings and thoughts. If you would like to request a certain time or date, please let me know :)
