3 horas 40 minutos horas presencialesTarea
1 hora por semana. Different parts of the students' science report will be submitted by each learner each week. On the 12th week, a Certificate of Achievement will be given to each learner who has submitted their Science Report.Experiencia de clase
In this class, we will learn about how to harness and use solar energy like a solar engineer. Kid Solar Engineers will consult with their parents about the problem to be resolved, assess how to resolve it, and help to assess how to resolve it. The Solar Engineering Adventurers then design an appropriate plan that considers all relevant factors. They also report project's efficiency, cost, safety project. Solar energy is a renewable energy resource powered by the sun. The energy produced by the sun is captured by solar panels or PV (photovoltaic) cells. The solar panels collect electricity by exciting electrons with photons of light which cause them to generate electricity. This “solar energy” can be used to power your home and appliances. Week 1: How to write a science report? Different parts of the students' science report will be submitted by each learner each week. Week 2: Define the problem (how to harness solar energy) Week 3: Unlimited free and clean fusion energy is the key but what is it? Week 4: How children can write science reports (students will critique each one's science report as each student explains what they have learned). A discussion will allow the students to learn from each other's work and if they would add more to their research if they had the time.
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will learn about how sunlight is an unlimited free and clean fusion energy that we have had for over four billion years. Learners will learn how to harness this type of energy and make electricity from it.

Orientación para padres
Handling aluminum foil, glass dishes, metal cans, and sun's light. Parents, please make sure that learners do not look into the sun and avoid burns from harnessing solar energy by wearing oven mitts.
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.

We will be using a guest speaker, Mr. Ulysses Weldon, a retired patent examiner (GS-15) from the US Patent and Trademark Office. Before joining US PATENT TRADEMARK OFFICE, he was a project engineer at UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES. His interests in nature and photographs have been expressed in his two books about the flora and fauna in Lake Artemesia in Maryland. His interest in all forms of energy resulted in an article on "How to Make a Home-made Solar Cooker". His interest in education resulted in the Three T's mentioned in the book "Bringing Out the Best", by J. Saunders. While in the USA army, he received a George Washington Honor Medal from the Freedoms Foundation for a letter written in 1963. The letter in part read, "I must become an evangelist for freedom. At every opportunity, I must help others gain knowledge of the principles that give birth to freedom". He received a BSEE from Howard University and a MSEE from George Washington University (with a concentration in Medical Engineering), and a BS in IFSM (University of Maryland Global Campus). While at GWU, he received an award from IEEE for an essay on speech restoral methods. He received first place in the Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest, Patent and Trademark Office, Office of Civil Rights (1992). He received a BRONZE METAL for superior service at the USA DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE. Received 20+ service awards from USA PATENT and TRADEMARK OFFICE. He taught at CAPITAL COLLEGE for several years. AFTER retirement, he was licensed to practice patent law before the US PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE. His letters to editors have appeared in the Washington post, the Time magazine, USA TODAY, PG JOURNAL, and Washington STAR. He was licensed as an amateur radio operator. In 1985, he was presented with the Order of the Ant by the Patent Office Society.
