Everyone knows that the U.S. government has three branches - but did you know that many scholars argue that we have a fourth?! In this thorough, one-time course, students will get a brief review of the three branches of government prior to an engaging lecture on administrative agencies: what are they, how do they operate, and what is their role in government? Then, we'll discuss why some experts and scholars, including Supreme Court Justices, believe that administrative agencies have become the unofficial '4th branch of government! Using a mixture of PowerPoint presentation, and class activities, students will hear various perspectives on the so-called 4th branch of government, including true court cases and words from a current Supreme Court Justice. Students will participate in live polls, Q&A's, and other interactive activities, while being encouraged to think critically, ask questions about their system, and consider multiple viewpoints.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve their understanding of the U.S. federal government, specifically the administrative agencies and their role in government.
