Plans have changed - oh no! Do you have difficulty when things don't go as expected? Did your favorite red marker run out of ink even though you really wanted to use it? Did you expect to be first in line for your favorite ride, but someone else was already there? When our minds are more flexible, we can more easily adapt when plans change.

In this class, students will discuss how, just like our bodies, our minds can be flexible. We'll talk about what it means to be flexible and what a flexible brain looks like. We'll look at the ways a flexible brain and an inflexible brain might view the same problem. We'll use discussion and activities to learn to solve problems, get along with others, and think about things in new ways. Finally, your student will use scenarios learn tips for stretching a brain so that it becomes more flexible over time - which leads to more happiness and less frustration!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will be aware of the differences between flexible and inflexible brains and how this impacts the way we respond to unexpected things in life. Students will learn tips for making our brains more flexible.

Hello! My name is Angie. For the past four years, I’ve taught English online while providing home education to my son who is currently a 5th grader. I have a master’s degree in social work and have also taken three years of doctorate level courses in pursuit of a PhD in Early Childhood Education. For several years, I taught child development classes to aspiring teachers at the collegiate level. In my career, I’ve also been a child and family therapist, helping children and their families tackle emotional and mental health concerns. I’ve worked with children in many capacities and am passionate about helping students learn and thrive in a variety of ways. I strongly believe learning should be fun, and I strive to always create an upbeat, positive learning environment. Who says you can’t learn and be silly at the same time?!

Outside of teaching, my hobbies include photography, martial arts, reading, and gaming with my family. I live at the beach in Florida with my husband Erick (also an Outschool teacher!), our science-loving son, and our cuddly cat.

If you would like to sign up for a class but the listed times don't work with your learner's schedule, please send me a message stating the class(es) you'd like to book as well as dates and times that work for you. I will do my best to accommodate scheduling requests.
