Important: If you are homeschooled OR attend a school that doesn't offer AP Examinations, you can find information about where to take the AP Music Theory Exam near you at this link: https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/faqs/can-i-register-ap-exam-if-my-school-doesnt-offer-ap-classes-or-administer-ap-exams#:~:text=You%20can't%20order%20AP,passed%20the%20AP%20Course%20Audit.

This class is the first semester for my "Ace the AP Music Theory" course, which prepares learners for the AP Music Theory Examination. Students gather twice a week for 40 minutes in a supportive and creative environment where they will master the skills necessary to pass their exam with flying colors! But this isn't just a "teach to the test" situation. Knowing that retention and musical fluency comes from *using* (and not simply memorizing) content, this course provides space to compose music using skills learned in preparation for the exam.

This class values peer support and community learning, authentic expression, humor and compassion. I strive to create a learning environment where every participant feels a sense of belonging. Though the AP Music Theory Examination centers Western theory and musical examples, this class intentionally adds and invites learners of all cultures to share and express music that represents their cultural and individual identities.

I am committed to teaching to the test, and beyond, and consider it a privilege to be a part of young musicians' lives!

This semester-long class covers half of the material students will be tested on, including:

*music fundamentals
*rhythm
*meter
*scales, keys, modes
*aural skills
*intervals
*triads
*seventh chords
*harmonic analysis
*function and cadences
*harmonic composition
*harmonic progressions
*melodic composition
* melodic dictations
* strategies for test-taking

Students meet twice a week to strengthen the skills needed to crush the AP Music Theory exam, and turn in weekly assignments to be assessed by the teacher. They will also take practice tests to evaluate their preparedness, receive peer and teacher support, and enjoy creativity-driven projects to explore their musical voices while preparing for the examination.
