This course is designed for students who know the basic letter sounds and short vowel sounds such as cat, mat, set, mit, fox, and cub. In each class, we will learn the first 100 words in Fry’s sight words, silent e vowel patterns, and vowel teams. As we learn these basics, we will also be reading simple books together so that we can apply these skills. Here is what we will be learning each week: Lessons 1-2: 1. Fry's Sight Words 51-60 (Depending on Student level, we may cover more.) 2. Vowel Pattern - Silent E (a_e as in make, and e_e a in Pete) 3. Reading books to focus on Decoding and blending words Lessons 3-4: 1. Fry's Sight Words 61-70 2. Vowel Pattern - Silent E (i_e as in kite, and o_e a in robe) 3. Reading more books to focus on decoding and blending words Lessons 5-6: 1. Fry's Sight Words 71-80 2. Vowel Pattern - Silent E (u_e as in tube, and review of all Silent E vowel patterns 3. Reading more books to focus on Sight Words and decoding Lessons 7-8: 1. Fry's Sight Words 81-90 2. Vowel Pattern - Vowel Teams (ai as in maid, ee as in meet) 3. Reading decodable and Sight Word Books Lessons 9-10: 1. Fry's Sight Words 91-100 2. Vowel Pattern - Vowel Teams (ea as in seal, and oa as in boat) 3. Reading Decodable and Sight Word Books Lessons 11-12: 1. Fry's Sight Words 101-111 2. Vowel Pattern - Vowel Teams (ay as in spray) 3. Reading Decodable and Sight Word Books
Metas de aprendizaje
At the end of the course, the students will be able to:
1. Identify and read Fry's Sight words 51-110
2. Read words with the CVCe pattern, such as make, Pete, Kite, Robe, Duke
3. Read words with vowel teams such as maid, spray, meet, seal, and boat
5. Read words with the digraphs Ph, Th, Wh, Ch, Sh
6. Read simple decodable books at Guided Reading Levels A and B (Kindergarten grade level).

I will be using Reading A-Z as a reading resource during class. Also, included in the class is an account for each child to use while they are enrolled.
We will be using PowerPoint and Google Slides to display sight words and phonics patterns during class.

Sharon Frazier-Verpooten has been teaching elementary school for over 30 years and tutoring struggling readers for 5 years. This class is especially helpful for students who may struggle with dyslexia as she will be using evidence based teaching practices that are multisensory, sequential, individualized, and based on phonograms. These are wonderful strategies for all beginning readers, and research has shown that these strategies are successful in helping students with dyslexia.
