Experiencia de clase

This class is part of my Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage Month Series: "Aloha! My name is Kawai`ola Wong and I am a teacher on Outschool. May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! I love Outschool because it allows me to teach classes on so many different topics that I am passionate about! During the month of May, to celebrate AAPI Month, I will be teaching a series of AAPI Classes. The series will include classes for a variety of ages, so I invite you to visit my page and check out the other classes in the series! Mahalo!"

In this one-time class, students will listen to a variety of songs by Asian American Artists. Following each song, students will engage in a discussion about the song. The teacher will provide necessary context for each song and will lead discussion. The discussion will focus on the musical qualities of the song and relating the song to individual experience. Students don't need to have any experience, but should be excited about music. Students should also be okay participating in the discussion, whether that be off mute or in the chat. The class will be very relaxed and feature large stretches of sitting. Specific songs and exact discussion flows will adapt based on both the learners present and what music is popular at the time of the class.

While this class features music by Asian American Artists, it is not intended to focus on the issues of equity and social justice that are present with this group. Rather, it is intended to highlight artists from this community in order to recognize the Asian American Community for things that are often left out of the discussion and to celebrate joy!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will practice evaluating and analyzing music. They will make personal connections to the music and discuss the impact of the songs.

Hello! My name is Mr. K, but here on Outschool, I primarily teach as the Drag Queen, Mys B. I originally hail from New Mexico, where I found a passion for both music and education. I moved in 2017 to attend college, and just graduated this previous May with my Bachelors of Arts in Music Education. Since graduating, I gained some experience in a brick-and-mortar classroom, where I received repeated praise from school and district administration, including consistently Excellent(above proficient) ratings on my observations. I have been teaching in drag for about half a year and I absolutely adore teaching on Outschool. I believe that learning should be fun and I strive to make my classes as engaging and inclusive as possible!

Please note: Due to a recent life change, this page has undergone serious revisions and will only be featuring Mys B's Classes.
