Experiencia de clase

Grab your golden ticket and join us as we discuss Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, discuss Who Was Roald Dahl, play games, have fun, and conclude with a discussion of our favorite versions of the movie watched with our families!

Willy Wonka's famous chocolate factory is opening at last!

But only five lucky children will be allowed inside. And the winners are: Augustus Gloop, an enormously fat boy whose hobby is eating; Veruca Salt, a spoiled-rotten brat whose parents are wrapped around her little finger; Violet Beauregarde, a dim-witted gum-chewer with the fastest jaws around; Mike Teavee, a toy pistol-toting gangster-in-training who is obsessed with television; and Charlie Bucket, Our Hero, a boy who is honest and kind, brave and true, and good and ready for the wildest time of his life!

WEEK ONE! We will begin by discussing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, which students are required to read BEFORE the first class. During class time, we will discuss the various characters, setting, plot progression , etc. Students will have plenty of time to share their thoughts, ideas, and impressions of this classic story. I will have questions and discussion prompts ready each week, should conversation lag. After our discussion time, we will end with a game if time permits! My book clubs are typically highly engaging, highly interactive, very lively!

WEEK TWO! We will discuss the short biography Who Was Roald Dahl? by the official Who Was HQ, which students are required to read BEFORE our second class! During discussion time, we will discuss the life of author Roads Dahl , as well as his writings, ultimately tying the story and his biography together. Again, during class time, full participation in class discussion is expected. There is grace for a shy student, of course, but students will be encouraged to dive into the discussion as they acclimate to the group. We will end with a game if time permits!

WEEK THREE! We will meet to discuss the movie version we each watched… whether Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1973), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), or Wonka! (2023)! ! Watch your family’s favorite version, or all three versions! When we meet, we will each share our thoughts and opinions about the movies, and make recommendations based on our experiences!

Orientación para padres
Ms. Carol has been a voracious reader since childhood. Her lifelong passion is to cultivate curiosity in children, and to inspire a lifelong love of learning, especially the reading and enjoyment of beautiful literature! It is not my style to glorify the scary or darker aspects of any story. I prefer to focus on, and to keep our class discussions focused on the positive life lessons. We do, however, briefly and tactfully touch on the darker topics, such as poverty, and the struggle of classism, as well. I make every attempt to model and teach critical thinking, regardless of what book we are reading. Ms. Carol has a PhD in pedagogy and history, with a Master’s in Cultural Studies. One of my core values is to teach children to think critically, and to apply that to everything they read. Racism or racial stereotypes is never acceptable to me, even in a fictional, magical world.
Lista de útiles escolares
Students will need …
1. a copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl.
2. a copy of Who Was Roald Dahl? by Who Was HQ, and
3. any version of the three chocolate factory movies you choose! Or all of them!

The books must be read or listened to BEFORE class. Students can use their own books, library books, ebooks, or even listen to the audio books. If listening to the audiobooks, it is highly recommended that student reads independently to develop their own reading comprehension and competency.
