What Will Be Taught? This course will take students on an exciting journey through the fundamental concepts of science, including scientific inquiry, physical science, Earth and space science, and life science. By engaging in a wide variety of topics, students will build a strong understanding of how the world works and develop the critical thinking skills needed to solve problems, make connections, and explore new ideas. What Topics Will You Cover? This course includes 36 weeks of in-depth exploration across key scientific concepts: Understanding Scientific Inquiry and Experimental Design Newton’s Laws of Motion, Force, and Energy The Rock Cycle, Earth’s Layers, and Geological Processes Light, Waves, and the Electromagnetic Spectrum Energy Conservation and Transfer in Systems The Solar System, Stars, and Galaxies Genetics, Heredity, and Evidence of Evolution Interactions and Energy Flow in Ecosystems The Carbon Cycle, Climate Impact, and Conservation How Is Your Class Structured? Each week includes: Direct Instruction: Engaging mini-lessons to introduce and explain core concepts. Facilitated Learning: Guided activities and discussions to deepen understanding. Hands-On Activities: Virtual labs, simulations, and interactive assignments. Breakout Sessions: Opportunities for collaborative learning and teamwork. How Will You Teach? This course uses evidence-based practices to support multiple learning modalities. Students will engage with concepts through visual aids (videos, diagrams, and slides), hands-on experiences (virtual labs and interactive simulations), and auditory resources (lectures and discussions). Activities are designed to cater to diverse learning styles while promoting engagement and retention. What’s Your Teaching Style? This course emphasizes inquiry-based learning where students actively explore scientific questions and discover solutions. By encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity, students will take ownership of their learning and see themselves as scientists and problem-solvers. How Much Will Learners Get to Interact? Students will have numerous opportunities to interact with the instructor and their classmates, including: Lectures and Slides: Participate in engaging lessons with opportunities to ask questions. Games and Quizzes: Reinforce understanding and spark friendly competition. Video Clips and Multimedia: Watch visual explanations to bring concepts to life. Discussions and Sharing Ideas: Collaborate with peers and share perspectives during group sessions. Hands-On Activities: Complete virtual labs, experiments, and simulations to apply knowledge in real-world scenarios.
Metas de aprendizaje
Creating: Design solutions to real-world problems using the engineering design process, such as creating 3D models or developing sustainable practices.
Applying: Use knowledge to solve problems in hands-on labs and interactive activities (e.g., calculating forces, modeling ecosystems).
