This is an 8-week series. Class meets once every week. Students will start a new sketch every week and have a chance to progress throughout the series. They will learn how to create texture by hatching and cross-hatching, stippling (tapping), circular strokes, shading, layering, gradations and random strokes. They will continue layering colors using those strokes. Each layer of color adds depth to the texture, creating patterns of light and dark that mimic the texture of the object. Students will start with inorganic surfaces such as metal and glass and move on to more advanced strokes to create organic textures such as fur, skin and feathers. A fundamental, hands-on working knowledge of the colored pencil medium and equipment will be addressed in the first meeting. Instructor will use a step-by-step approach to demonstrate art concepts such as basic Color Theory, forms, tones and value. Emphasis will be on problem-solving, skill building, and helping students develop a personal style. Specific techniques will be addressed to help students make decisions and work through and complete compositions. Schedule Week 1 - Glass Marble Week 2 - Gummy Bear Week 3 - Metallic Balloon Dog Week 4 - Tulip Flower Week 5 - Peacock Feather Week 6 - Strawberry Week 7 - Butterfly Wing Week 8 - Cat Fur Once students have built a solid foundation and keep practicing, they will be able to draw a multitude of objects on their own. Classes are highly interactive and students will have the opportunity to socialize and share their ideas in a fun and upbeat environment. It is a perfect class for students who would like to expand on their sketching abilities to make their art look more realistic.
