Oh no!! The teachers were planning an EPIC 100th Day of School party for their students. There were so many snacks and treats for the kiddos: 100 pizzas, 100 boxes of popcorn, 100 apples, 100 cups of orange juice, 100 cupcakes, 100 pies, 100 burgers, 100 donuts, 100 cookies, and 100 scoops of ice cream! But someone snuck into the party room and took 10 of each treat so that now there is not enough for all of the students. The teachers have been drawing up a list of the possible suspects for the crime, but they need our Math Detectives help to put a stop to all of the craziness!! In this super fun mystery, students will solve the clues and eliminate suspects on the suspect list until only one remains. This fun detective story has students read simple words and phrases to match information given with the suspects on the list, so we can know who who the bad guy (or gal) is!

Students will practice missing addends and subtrahends to make 100, multiplying numbers ending in zeroes by single-digit numbers, dividing numbers ending in zeroes by 10 and 100, converting decimals to percents, and converting fractions to percents as they work through all of the clues for the case. As students answer the questions for the clues, they will eliminate suspects that do not match the clues until all five have been completed. **I have adjusted this class so that there is nothing to print off. All clues and the elimination of suspects will be done on a shared screen. Students should bring paper and pencil or a whiteboard and marker to work out the math problems.

At the beginning of class, we will have introductions and answer some fun "favorite treat" related questions before getting started with the mystery. Then, students will watch a short intro video of what is going on at the school. For each clue, I will read the directions, project the math problems onto the classroom screen, and let our Math Detectives get to work! Please be sure that your learner brings some scratch paper and a pencil or a dry erase board and marker to work out their problems. When they answer the problems correctly, letters will be unlocked on the screen to present a clue. As they find the clues, students will use the information and deductive reasoning to help narrow down the suspect list and eliminate suspects that will be seen on the screen. At the end of class, when they find the correct suspect, there will be one more bonus round of math work (work out the percent of a number e.g. what is 50% of 70? 100% of 95? 25% of 80?) that must be completed to make sure all of the treats get returned!

After class, I will send an award to each student for solving the case and to celebrate what great Math Detectives they were! Now, let's have some FUN learning math!! I look forward to seeing your learners in the classroom!!
