*** students are welcome to join quarter three even if they were not a part of quarter one and quarter two! Reach out if you would like a half price one on one session to see if I am a good fit for your child!

I love math and I can’t wait to ignite a love of math for your learner this year! This class will become a math community throughout the year! We will encourage each other and cheer each other on as we discuss strategies to solve math problems. We will meet twice weekly to explore and learn fifth grade common core standards. I will begin most classes with a short mini lesson followed by examples. Students will then complete some problems on their own! The chat box, discussion, and interactive whiteboard will be utilized for students to share their problem solving strategies with me and the class. I will use visuals and manipulatives to help explain new concepts as needed. Games will also be used throughout the session to engage learners in the material! Following each live class meeting, homework will be given for students to complete the following day. They will return their homework to me via outschool messages and I will respond to them with feedback to help them fix their mistakes and congratulate them on their hard work!

Week 1: Dividing fractions with pictures, tape diagrams, and number lines.

Week 2: Dividing fractions and mixed numbers with the standard algorithm. Word problems.

Week 3: Mixed fraction word problems. Catch up, extensions as needed this week.

Week 4: Convert length and weight in the customary system. Real life word problems! A ruler will be very helpful for this week.

Week 5: Convert capacity in the customary system. Mixed review of the customary system.

Week 6: Convert measurements within the metric system, real life word problems!

Week 7:What is volume? Finding volume of rectangular prisms, real life word problems. Will include fractional edge lengths as well!

Week 8: Games and word problems to review all concepts taught this quarter! I will send an assessment after the last class for students to complete! They are welcome to use their notes but no calculator!

This class is capped at six learners to ensure a small group experience for your child!

This is part 3 of a 4 part year long class! I am excited to meet your learner! Reach out if you have any questions about this class! I am happy to offer a 15 minute meet and greet session at no charge if you’d like to ask questions or get to know me! Just ask! This class must have at least four learners enrolled to carry on!

Hi!! I’m Mrs. Drye. I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from UNC Chapel Hill and a Masters Degree in Middle Grades Math Education from UNC-Charlotte. I was a NC Teaching Fellow and Teacher of the Year when I taught 6th grade math! As a teacher I focus on building relationships with students so that I can help them to build their math confidence. I focus on differentiating learning for each of my students. I can extend learning for some learners while helping others to review a topic that’s tough for them. I encourage students to share their math thinking and guide them in learning new strategies. I also keep class fun and exciting with games, discussion, and songs! I taught 5th and 6th grade for 8 years before deciding to stay home and homeschool my three girls. My daughters are now 10, 8, and almost 6! I enjoy exploring new places, teaching, and exercising!
