Compare and contrast two or more characters, settings, or events by reading a story and analyzing characters and their perspectives
Lesson 2
Responding to Literature
Students will complete a literature response analysis on one of the characters from the weekly story

Main Idea and Supporting Details
Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details by reading a nonfiction text
Lesson 4
Nonfiction Summary
Students will learn what to include in a nonfiction summary by looking at an exemplar text. Students will write a nonfiction summary

Lesson 5
Plot Structure and Sequence
Students will analyze the plot structure of a fiction text by using a plot map. Students will understand how these elements work together to create the story
Lesson 6
Narrative Writing
Students will plan a narrative writing using a plot map
 Week 4
Lesson 7
Comparing and Contrasting Texts
Students will read two texts and comparing their approaches using a graphic organizer
Lesson 8
Compare and Contrast Writing
Students will compose a compare and contrast writing using a venn diagram for planning purposes

Lesson 9
Text Features and Text Structures
Students will practice identifying and analyzing text features in informational texts
Lesson 10
Expository Writing
Students will compose an expository writing using text features
 Week 6
Lesson 11
Analyzing Themes
Students will read poetry and analyze the themes
Lesson 12
Writing Response
Students will write a response on one of the poems. Students will learn to cite evidence from the poem in their response

Figurative Language
Students will learn about different types of figurative language. Students will practice identifying figurative language in context

Figurative Language
Students will read poems that contain figurative language and discuss how that figurative language contributes to the text

Reading and Analyzing Informational Texts
Students will practice reading comprehension as they analyze a nonfiction text

Informational Writing
Students will complete an informational writing based on the reading from the week

Opinion Writing Analysis
Students will read an opinion essays and learn about how to support a claim. Students will select a topic and plan for their essay

Students will practice making inferences in fiction and nonfiction texts.

Students will analyze texts to identify cause and effect relationships

Students will compose a cause and effect writing, using vocabulary to indicate that cause and effect relationship.

Narrative Writing - Essay Composition
Students will complete their planning and draft their narrative essay

  • - Enhance their writing abilities by crafting narratives, informative essays, opinion pieces, and research projects.
  • -Expand their vocabulary and use context clues to understand new words, improving their overall language proficiency.
