I will provide 5-10 example problems for homework after each class. This is voluntary and will be reviewed at the beginning of the next class. If a student is struggling, they can post their concerns on the classroom wall for more clarification. Homework should not take more than 15 minutes per assignment.Evaluación
I will assess students in class based on their participation and homework (if they do their homework). Students will also have occasional quizzes. I can also provide a progress report at the end of the course. Please let me know if you would like a letter grade for this class.Calificación

This class is interactive, where I will break concepts down and check for understanding throughout the class. I scaffold and adjust my pacing to suit the needs of the students. I will use visuals, mnemonics, real-world examples, discussion, guided notes, and games to ensure a deep understanding. Student participation is expected. I strive to make learning fun and instill confidence in the student. I use the “I do, We do, You do” model to encourage retention and build confidence. After teaching a concept, I will explain a real-world example, guide the students in solving a problem, and then let them solve one independently to ensure they understand the concept. My classroom is more than a place to learn conversions and formulas; it is a safe, supportive environment where students learn communication, social, and problem-solving skills. Every child can succeed with guidance and encouragement. The teacher’s job is to establish a positive and productive learning environment, engaging and differentiated instruction, and a professional relationship with students and parents. This course will cover the first quarter of a 4th grade curriculum. Specifically, these 16 classes include the Common Core State Standards 4.NBT.1 – 4.NBT.6 (Number Operations in Base 10) and 4.OA.1 – 4.OA.3 & 4.OA.5 (Operations and Algebraic Thinking). Students will use the place value system to understand multi-digit whole numbers. Students will use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic. Students will use the four operations with whole numbers to solve problems. Students will generate and analyze patterns. Students need to have taken 3rd grade math or have been tested on a 4th grade level. We will review 3rd grade concepts to build on. We will have class twice a week for eight weeks. The following is our tentative schedule for the first quarter: Week 1: Understand place value relationships. Read and write numbers Week 2: Round and compare numbers. Identify & generate number patterns Week 3: Add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers with computational fluency Week 4 & 5: Multiply up to 4 digit numbers by 1 and 2 digit numbers Week 6: Multiplicative comparison Week 7 & 8: Divide up to 4 digit dividend by 1 digit divisor (with remainders) *Please note that if there are not at least three students enrolled, I will have to cancel or postpone the class. Each class will begin with a 5-minute breakdown of the previous class’s homework. This is to make sure that everyone retained the lesson and can complete the assignment without help. At 20 minutes into class, we will have a 5-minute brain break where the students can do a physical activity, math riddle, or go to the bathroom. I do not drill. If students want extra practice, I can recommend books, websites, and provide more exercises. The focus of this class is a deep understanding of the curriculum and the confidence that it instills.
