"Welcome to the exciting world of fourth grade math! Our engaging series of four classes (Fall, Winter I, Winter II, and Spring) offers a comprehensive math experience for your student. Whether used as the main math course for the year or as a supplement to another class or curriculum, this program is designed to foster a deep understanding of math concepts.

Students joining this class should have successfully completed the first half of fourth grade.

We're thrilled to embark on a mathematical journey using the renowned Singapore Math Curriculum, aligned with the Common Core math standards. In addition to this, our class will incorporate various activities and strategies, such as number talks to enhance student number sense, exciting games, and hands-on projects.

Get ready for an incredibly interactive learning experience! Students will not just be observers; they'll be active participants in their own learning. Brace yourself for lots of games—we hope you have a competitive side!

Our dedicated teachers will guide each student's learning journey, meeting them where they are and tailoring instruction to their needs. For those facing challenges with certain topics, extra tutoring sessions with the teacher are available.

Joining our class means becoming part of a close-knit family. We encourage students to attend class on time, fully prepared to participate, with cameras on and minimal distractions. We can't wait to make math a fun and enriching experience for your fifth grader! Enroll now and let the learning adventure begin."

Weeks 1 & 2
Multiplying Fractions by whole numbers
   CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.B.4
Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction by a whole number.

Week 3
Making and interpreting line graphs and line plots
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.MD.B.4
Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Solve problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by using information presented in line plots. For example, from a line plot find and interpret the difference in length between the longest and shortest specimens in an insect collection.

Week 4 & 5
Metric measurement and customary units of length, weight, and capacity
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.MD.A.1
Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single system of measurement, express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.MD.A.2
Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Represent measurement quantities using diagrams such as number line diagrams that feature a measurement scale.

Week 6 & 7
Area and Perimeter
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.MD.A.3
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems.

Weeks 8 & 9
Tenths, hundredths, expressing decimals as fractions, comparing decimals
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.C.6
Use decimal notation for fractions with denominators 10 or 100. For example, rewrite 0.62 as 62/100; describe a length as 0.62 meters; locate 0.62 on a number line diagram.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.C.7
Compare two decimals to hundredths by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two decimals refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual model.

Hello,

My name is Amy Sneath and I am the creator of Moxie Learning. Our company of teachers aim to provide a world class education without the limits of physical location. We form true classroom communities that rival those of traditional school. Friendships and true connection alongside academic excellence are regular occurrences at Moxie Learning.

When I was in school, I fell victim to math phobia and believed I was "bad" at math. Now I pride myself on meeting students where they are at and building their confidence to see they can learn any concept. I have experience in traditional 3rd and 4th grade classrooms teaching math and have seen first hand the difference in student achievement when they build confidence in themselves. This creates a life long love of learning which is even more valuable than the specific skills they will learn in my classroom.

Our team of teachers have several years of online educational experience in various grade levels and subjects. Both of our teachers graduated college with honors and are life long learners themselves. We are excited to share our love of learning with your children!
