Are you a Cantonese speaker but it’s hard to get your kids to speak it? Or do you want your child to learn a new language? This one-on-one 15-minute class suitable for smaller learners with a shorter attention span. We will meet twice a week instead of meeting once for a long period. Students will get tailor-made lesson plans according to their levels and needs. Everyone is different and learns differently, I hope to build a friendly relationship with your child so I can understand them better and teach them in a unique way that suits their needs. In this class, we will be practicing beginner vocabulary, conversation, or anything the student is interested in or want to improve. For beginner students, we will be learning basic vocabulary including numbers, weather, animals, transportation, festivals, telling time, etc. As students progress we will be learning to speak in complete sentences and more complex vocabulary. Students will learn through visuals, reading, playing games, and worksheets. My classes will be encouraging, fun and I will help your child to build up confidence in Cantonese. Hello, my name is Joanne. Nice to meet you!
I was born in Hong Kong but moved to Canada when I was six years old. Growing up, my family speaks to me in Cantonese so I'm bilingual in Cantonese and English. After graduating from the University of Toronto with an Honors Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Geography, I went back to Hong Kong to work. Working in Hong Kong for ten years has deepened my understanding of Chinese culture and language. I love both languages and use them daily with my family and friends.
I am now back in Canada and have been teaching children for over 10 years. I am a TESOL-certified online ESL teacher and currently teaching online ESL English and Cantonese to children in the US, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Korea from ages 4-13. I am also teaching Korean adults. I also have a ten-year-old son and we love to read, play in the park, and explore new places.
I believe you will learn more and be better at it when you are enjoying what you are doing. I love to make my students smile and laugh. I will use my bilingual skills and my experience with children to help each student to learn their best. My classes are fun, engaging, and educational.
