Review sound chart, play Go Fish using words with the week's skill embedded in the words.Experiencia de clase
Is your learner ready to move past reading words with short vowel sounds; such as tap, drip, and drop? Is your learner reading single-syllable words, but struggling with multi-syllable words? Did you know that some vowel sounds can be made with six different vowel spellings? I use the science of reading to teach strategies that allow learners to identify the vowel teams and their many sounds. We identify the most common spellings of vowel sounds, as well as the less common ones. First, we tap a say the vowel teams we will practice. (Learners will receive a handout to use at home for practice too.) Next, learners write and say the skill for the week, such as the vowel team "ai" makes the sound /ay/ and "ei" makes the sound /ay/ We arm spell several words using the new vowel team: rain, train, rein We then practice reading words and phrases with the new sound pattern. Compound words and Verb endings -ed and -ing will be added to the base words to extend the words read. As learners are successful we move on to practice other vowel teams that represent the same sound: ay-/ay/, ey-/ay/, ei-/ay/ Learners will use teacher-created handouts to complete activities each week. Learners may choose to use alphabet letters, whiteboards, and pop-its as part of their supplies. If the group of learners is doing well during a lesson, I will review additional vowel teams that represent a similar vowel sound.
