This private class is for students who wish to expand their knowledge of mythology, legends, and the magical beasts made famous (or infamous) throughout history. From Greek myths to medieval stories to modern cryptids, we will follow our nose to explore new realms together. This class is wonderful for students who have a passion for mythology and fantasy. It is also a welcome space for all types of learners, especially for those who thrive in a small setting with more individual attention. It can be a stand-alone class, or can compliment one of my existing courses in this subject. I will closely with the student and families to develop a schedule of learning that includes sharing stories, making observations of different artistic renditions of fantasy creatures, delving into how the legends began, researching theories, discovering their original locations on maps and globes, and keeping a notebook of our exploration. We may incorporate special projects based on the learner's interest and ability. The teacher will provide a list of suggested topics, such as: Mermaids Unicorns Fairies Elves Chimera Hippogriff Minotaur Dragons Basilisk etc. You can enroll for one class, or we can create a series of classes together. Here is a sample schedule for a 4-week study of one creature: Week of September 4: Pick a subject and research together. Add some facts we learn to our notebooks. Week of September 11: Find our subject on a map and create our own maps together. Learn more about the people who founded the myth and how it evolved through time. Add our maps to our notebook. Week of September 18: Complete a step-by-step guided illustration of our subject and add it to our notebooks. Week of September 25: Complete a hands-on project related to our subject. Prepare and execute a presentation of our notebook and other projects, based on what we've learned.

Some stories and legends can have dark themes or fictional violence. All subject matter will be adjusted to suit the individual learner's development, preferences, and sensitivities, and will be presented in a child-friendly manner.
Use of scissors or other craft supplies may be requested. Please use parental discretion when deciding if your child needs assistance or a substitution.
All suggested activities are optional and subject to change based on learner preference.
Allergy Note: Playdough may contain wheat, which could cause an allergic reaction if ingested in those sensitive to wheat gluten or with Celiac disease. I am happy to provide a recipe for gluten-free playdough upon request, or suggest alternative supplies.
Lista de útiles escolares
This course can be whatever you want it to be! However here is a basic list of what I imagine we will use: Each week, we will use some or all of the following: Paper and pencil, construction paper, colored pencils/markers/crayons, building/construction blocks/toys (ie plastic building bricks), small manipulatives, sculpting materials such as clay, sculpey, or playdough, glue stick, scissors (adult assistance may be necessary), plain white paper plates. A blank, spiral-bound sketch book or journal (spiral-bound opens flat for ease of use), preferable one that opens horizontally for a side-by-side layout of pages. Printed materials will be provided before each meeting. Access to a printer is required--but if none is available, please contact teacher to arrange an alternative solution. (We will do our best to make it work!) Additional materials may be requested prior to individual classes, but they will be common household or office supplies that are easy to find in most homes. Alternative suggestions are always available upon request if a student does not have access to a supply we will be using.

I'm so excited to explore the exciting world of fantasy and legend with your! I've been teaching STEAM and social studies topics to preschool through middle school for 8 years through an independent STEAM education company, and I'm really looking forward to connecting with private, 1:1 students here on Outschool.
