In this weekly class, learners can work one on one with Miss Leigh to meet their specific needs. We will work on early reading and writing skills, introduce math concepts, and tie them together with a common theme each week. Science and craft activities can be included at parent's request. Themes will be tailored to the interests and skill level of each individual student. A sample of weekly structure and themes can be found below: Day 1: -Sing nursery rhyme -Identify starting letters of words within the nursery rhyme -Read a story together -CVC words inspired by the story Day 2: -Repeat nursery rhyme and short story (repetition is so important!) -Site words from story -Math activity that relates to story, such as a ten frame, telling time, or grouping and sorting Sample Themes: Week of 9/12: Adding and subtracting with hot dogs, adjectives/words to describe Week of 9/19: Finding missing addends, writing short sentences
Metas de aprendizaje
Literacy goals: build phonological awareness, recognize rhyming words, recognize names and common words such as name and colors, basic CVC and sight words
Numeracy goals: count up to 20 out loud, identify numbers up to 20, put numbers in order, pair numbers and groups of objects, add and subtract using manipulatives, demonstrate concept of more and less, pattern recognition
