Nivel Beginner - Intermediate
This class is available for students who would like one-to-one sessions focusing on Music Composition, from creating their first melodies to writing for groups of instruments. This class will allow a learner-focused approach to exploring their interests in music, providing a supportive space for working on their own compositions and developing music theory and composition skills. Learners will be encouraged to use staff notation (i.e. treble, alto, bass clefs) to write down their work, and to use software such as Musescore or Noteflight to work on and edit music digitally. Learners may bring along a melody or piece that they have already started to work on or use their first class to generate their very first ideas. For learners who have already started to compose, we will spend some time analysing their work so far and discussing relevant techniques and options for extending their work. For learners who are brand new to composing, the first session will focus on constructing short melodic phrases using 3-4 chords/triads, which they will then be able to build into a piece of music during independent study and/or the next classes. The class is available as either a one-time or ongoing 1:1 class! Click "check availability" to schedule based on my standard availability, or reach out with your desired timeframe, day of the week, and time zone. Learners do not need to play an instrument or take singing lessons to compose, but some experience will help. Concepts such as notation, instrumentation, and how to accurately communicate music in written form will be covered as appropriate - so you don't need to be an expert in music theory already. This class is a perfect way to combine time for creativity with building up technical knowledge. Since this is a 1:1 class, all curriculum will be learner-directed, but I will provide prompts and exercises to supplement each learner's skill/knowledge level and goals.
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will create their own musical compositions.
