I use the Science of Reading as a basis for all that I do. This means our time together will focus on phonological awareness, explicit phonics instruction, and lots of repetition! Your student will be assessed to see what deficits they have and what areas they will need to spend the most time in. I will then structure the remaining lessons to meet these deficits and bring them up to meet or exceed the Kindergarten or First Grade standard we are working on. I will informally assess these skills each session to measure growth and inform my choice of instructional strategies. I believe forming a relationship with the student will encourage them to further grow and be motivated. I will also work to instill a growth mindset in the student.
