Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés - A2
Nivel Beginner - Advanced
This class is kept deliberately small at only 2 learners to make sure all the learners who attend get focused, personalised feedback and support for their public speaking. A great class to take with a sibling, friend, or in a pod. As well as being a nice, supportive environment for building confidence and skills.

In this ongoing class we will work on your learner's use of voice (with areas such as pitch, precision, pace, projection, volume, intonation, accent, emphasis, articulation/elocution, diction, tone, pauses, breath control, and expression) to help them develop their public speaking understanding, skills, and confidence.

After some vocal warm-ups, we'll explore a different public speaking technique each week by exploring a piece of prose/text featuring a character from the famous literary classics 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and 'Alice through the looking glass', by the acclaimed author Lewis Carroll.

Week 1- We'll look at changing our voice pitch, explore tone and intonation to explore the character of the Cheshire Cat,
Week 2- We'll look at changing the pace of our voice, our vocal emphasis to explore the character of the Caterpillar,
Week 3- We'll look at changing the pace of our voice in a different way, explore our use of breath and how to use it to support our voice, to explore the character of the White Rabbit,
Week 4- We'll look at changing the pitch of our voice in a different way, our use of pauses, and how to hide any nerves, to explore the character of the Dormouse,
Week 6- We'll explore changing the volume of our voice, how to project (without shouting), to explore the character of the Queen, and so on looking at a different character each week.

Learners will get regular feedback with tips they can continue to build on both live in class, and often afterward from notes in the classroom.

The resource of the classic stories of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and 'Through the Looking Glass' have been chosen as they provide a wealth of interesting and varied text/prose material, present strong, diverse characters whose exploration often takes learners out of their comfort zone a bit to help build their confidence, learners will likely have some familiarity with the characters already and when we think about presenting the text to young children it requires an even higher, more expressive level of speaking/presenting, which makes for a more intensive learning experience.

**Due to the carefully created structure of this class there will need to be 2 learners signed up for it to run**

I've acted in and directed productions of these stories and wrote an adaptation, so I know the characters extremely well.

I am a fully qualified teacher (BAPA, PGCE) with 16+ years of experience teaching Drama (and Music, PSHCE, and English) and Performing Arts in bricks and mortar schools, where I currently still teach part-time, including running small group and 1:1 confidence-building  workshops. I also have many years of experience leading community workshop schemes (like create a play in a week) and local drama groups for ages 4 to 16.

As a professional actress, I've performed to children from ages 2-14 in theatres, arts centres, social clubs, historical properties,  nurseries, and schools. Playing roles such as the Gingerbread man and a tortoise, to a wartime headmistress and Queen Elizabeth the first! With lots of Q & A and interactive workshops along the way.

I then branched into presenting (live, events, radio, some TV, and for holiday companies across Europe) including some Voiceover work. I currently create and present drama and presenter tuition videos and have a regular podcast.

I have produced and directed many productions (musicals and plays) as well, including some I have written myself.
