Thanks to everyone who joined our new CEO, Brian Co, for a conversation about where Outschool is heading.
Brian has spent his career in edtech, most recently at PowerSchool. He first found Outschool as a parent in 2018, when his twins took How to Tie Your Shoes. Here’s what he shared:
- Human-led learning isn’t changing. “I do not believe that AI will replace teachers.” He sees AI as a behind-the-scenes helper, for things like class summaries and showing parents their kids’ progress.
- Academics and electives aren’t in competition. The push toward academics comes from what families are searching for. Outschool wants to help families pair core classes with the enrichment no virtual academy offers.
- More people building for educators. The product team grew by almost 40%, including a team focused on educator tools like unified scheduling and our own classroom to replace Zoom. Expect a roadmap in early Q1, and to test new features before they launch.
- ESA momentum. ESA bookings are up more than 75% this year. Uploading your certifications or degree helps you reach families in states that require them.
- Steady footing. Outschool has no debt, patient investors and a strong board.
