Workshop: Make a Paper Airplane in Seven Steps!

Did you know you can make a basic paper airplane in seven folds? I will take students through the process, step by step - just how I learned when I was a kid! In addition to making paper airplanes, we will briefly discuss the science of paper airplane flight, including the four forces that affect a paper airplane's flight. We will also decorate our airplanes (if desired), before and/or after folding them. Time permitting, we'll experiment with a few minor variations to see what effect...

Students will practice making paper airplanes • Students will be very briefly introduced to paper airplane related scientific concepts • Students will use their listening skills • Students will practice their fine motor skills • Students will use their creativity to decorate their paper airplanes • Students will have a chance to casually interact with peers around a shared learning goal
I have worked with kids of all ages in a wide variety of settings, and I love to help kids learn. I took several science related classes while completing my BA, and I completed an Advanced Placement Physics class in high school.
Please bring: A dozen sheets of standard weight 8.5x11 copier/printer paper, any color Crayons, markers, or colored pencils A few paperclips A stapler (if possible) Optional: Stickers Scissors
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Student will have the option of using a stapler or scissors for some possible variations of this project. Please be prepared to help if they cannot do this safely on their own OR please find a few paperclips for them to use, if possible. Students should come to class aware of the fact that making a paper airplane can be tricky. They may not get all the way there in one class!
