Class Experience

Where in the world can you see a panda, surf the waves, or go on a safari? Join me on an interactive scavenger hunt around the world! In this one time class, young learners will have the opportunity to explore the seven continents of the world, while searching for different items specific to each continent.

Each learner will be provided with two printable handouts prior to the class. The first handout will contain seven pictures of items to look for as we explore each continent. We will go on a make believe airplane ride to each continent, and the students will learn a few fun facts about each continent we visit. They will be encouraged to keep their eyes open for the items on the printable, and they can circle each item as we find it. Our journey around the world will be very interactive and full of movement and activities to keep young children engaged.

Children will also be provided with a second printable that contains a map of the world with the seven continents labeled. As we go on our make believe journey, learners will be encouraged to circle the different continents as we go. We will also count the continents and discuss what letter each continent begins with. After class, children will be encouraged to color in the pictures on both printables. For a challenge, the students can cut out the different scavenger hunt items and glue them to the appropriate continent.

Let’s go on an adventure! I can’t wait to explore the world with your tiny traveler!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Kelly Baker and I live in Raleigh, North Carolina. I am a mother to 3 young children ( ages 9, 6, and 4), and I am a current first grade teacher at a local private school. I also have over 5 years of experience teaching online! I taught for Outschool for 2 years, and loved it, but made the decision to step back last fall when I accepted my current position as a first grade teacher. However, I have missed my online friends and am excited to reenter this space! While I will not have the same extensive availability as I have had in the past, I am super excited to reconnect with some old friends and meet new friends!

I graduated from Clemson University with a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Spanish. I am also currently pursuing my Masters of Arts in Teaching at NC State University in Elementary Education and expect to graduate next December (2024). I love working with children, and I have taught in preschools, elementary schools, and private settings. I spent several years teaching ESL online to children in China, which has given me the tools needed to create meaningful and interactive online learning experiences.

I have a passion for travel and learning about different cultures! I have personally traveled to 20 different countries, including 5 different continents, and I have seen how people live all over the world. My goal is to broaden the world view of young learners by taking them on virtual adventures around the world! I believe that children learn the best through play and natural discovery. My classes will always be high energy, interactive, include lots of movement and fun, while still containing meaningful content. My goal is to ignite your child’s natural curiosity and allow them to discover our great big, amazing world!!

Let’s go on an adventure! I hope to see you in the classroom!
