We will begin by discussing the concept of area and a few basic terms. Students will learn the equations for area of a rectangle as well as area of a parallelogram and apply that information to simple problems. We will work those together and then independently followed by discussion to ensure they have the concepts. Lastly we will look at several odd shapes that can be broken down into rectangles and parallelograms in order to find their overall area. Again we will work problems together and try a few independently before discussing final answers. No prior knowledge is needed for this course. I do expect them to interact and answer questions either vocally or in the chat box.

I received my degree in Mathematics in '97 and have since work as a math tutor, owning my own math tutoring business, and taught math within the homeschool community where I live. My courses will primarily be directed toward Pre-Algebra and Algebra which are my favorites to teach! Though my degree is in Mathematics, while homeschooling our 5 kids I have taught all the core classes as well as a variety of specialized fun classes at our local co - op. I enjoy gardening, canning, traveling and believe the best learning comes through experiences.
