Weekly Vietnamese Class - Level 3 - Beginners - Ages 6-10

Third level of beginner series. Students learn opposites, nationality, language and basic descriptions of self. Fully interactive class. Students will practice reading, writing, and speaking Vietnamese. CEFR A0 level.

Class Experience

IMPORTANT TO KNOW: 
- Speed: Moderate
- This is the third level of a multi-level beginner series. Each level has 6 classes and a total of 3 hours of instruction at the A0 level. 
- This class is appropriate for: Beginners or those who know some Vietnamese and need a refresher.


PRE-REQUISITES: 
Students should be able to do the following in Vietnamese: 
- Greet others 
- Introduce themselves including their name, age, grade and whether they have pets. 
- Count from 1 to 100 
- State the 11 basic colors and be able to describe an object's size and color correctly when provided the noun 
- Recite the alphabet and sound out basic words
- Formulate a basic affirmative or negative sentence 
- Ask for an object
- Ask permission to do an action
- Formulate a closed (yes/no) question 


FORMAT: 
- Students will learn new material then practice all four areas of language learning: oral comprehension, oral production, written comprehension, written production
- On occasion, we will employ mnemonic devices such as rhythm, song and movement, to retain the information (ex: Simon Says, clapping etc.).
- This is NOT a full immersion course.

HOMEWORK: 
- On the occasions homework is assigned, it should no more than 20 minutes between classes.


CLASS BEHAVIOR & ADMINISTRATIVE INFO: 
Please make note of the following:
1) VIDEO REQUIRED. 
Video is required at the beginning of every class for check in. This is a requirement by Outschool. 

2) RESPECT
Please have your learner(s) familiarize themselves with the Outschool features such as mute and raising their hand. Students are expected to be respectful to all during class including while using Zoom's chat feature.

3) NO SHARING
Please enroll all siblings for their own spot in the class, as appropriate. Also, per Outschool policy, adults are also not allowed on-camera at any point. Students should be able to navigate the class independently. 

4) MINIMUM ENROLLMENT
Classes with less than 3 students will be either canceled and refunded or rescheduled. 

5) MAKE UP SESSIONS
Make up sessions are NOT available. I encourage students to review the video for whichever class they missed.

6) ABSENCES & REFUNDS
Please refer to the Outschool policy regarding refunds. I cannot offer refunds after the class has taken place.

Lesson 1:
Review of Levels 1 & 2
 Introductions (name, age, grade, pets), numbers, colors, and phrasing basics including affirmative and negative phrases as well as formulation of closed questions. Students should be able to ask and answer basic yes/no questions (ex: asking for an object, asking for permission to do something).

 Students learn how to describe their nationality and heritage and that of friends and basic family members.

Supply List
Students are encouraged when possible to take physical notes as this encourages retention. Notes should be kept in a dedicated notebook or binder that the student brings to class. 

If the student prefers to keep digital notes, these should be available for reference during class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
