Learn To Read With Teacher Tracy - Individual Beginner Reading Tutoring
Weekly Early Elementary Story Time with Reading Comprehension
Class experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 3
During this class, students will listen to a popular children's picture book being read. While the book is narrated, basic vocabulary questions and prediction questions will be asked. Additionally through the book reading we will focus on basic factual and retelling questions. After the book is finished being read, the teacher will guide the students through a literary discussion. This will include higher order thinking questions that will focus on inference, evaluation, and appreciation....
At the end of this class, students will have demonstrated listening skills. They will also actively participate in discussion allowing them to demonstrate comprehension of the story in a variety of ways.
I have over fifteen years experience as an educator, with a Master's Degree in Curriculum Instruction and Development. I have been leading reading technique and comprehension discussions for over twenty years. I'm passionate about helping readers of all ages discover the joy of the written word.

We will be reading of popular children's books in this class. The children do not need their own copy of the book, however if they would like to purchase their own copy or borrow from the library, it is helpful for some children to follow along as the story is read depending on their individual reading level.
Parental guidance is not required as long as the student is comfortable using the basic features of the Zoom chat. The chat feature will be turned off unless a parent requests access prior to the class based on their individual child's personal needs. The instructor is happy to accommodate any learning differences and/or disabilities as long as notified prior to the start of the lesson.
The book for each week will be shared in the class chat prior to the next meeting, and is listed in the course description. I recommend parents check commonsensemedia.org/ to verify the content against their own personal family values and beliefs. Feel free to skip a class if the story for the week is inconsistent with your family culture.
