Class Experience

During this class, students will learn how to create code to drive the visual robot around, how to use sensors to navigate the robot, and how to sequence commands correctly in order to solve the robotics computing challenge--Ocean Cleanup. No prior coding experience is required, just an interest in technology!

In this class, students learn and practice the following basic coding and robotics concepts:
- Sequence planning
- Loops
- Ultrasonic sensors
- Condition statements
- Algorithm efficiency

We will begin with introductions and an explanation of the class. As the teacher, I will model the lesson using screen sharing and guide the students through the process as we go on a learning escape room adventure! After the demo, the students will work together to solve computing problems in the escape room, interacting with myself and other learners to answer the problems correctly to move through to the next part of the class. The students will be encouraged to ask questions, help others troubleshoot their code, and share their ideas and solutions as we go over the escape room adventure. I will check in on students and give students the opportunity to let me know when they need help.

This class will provide an interactive and personal experience, where the students will be asked to share their screens when they need assistance with debugging.

Learning Goals

By the end of this lesson, the students will describe the correct sequence of Python commands needed to complete the movement task. They will also have a basic comprehension of what robots are and can identify the key components of a robot drive system.
