Understanding Literary Elements - Single Session
This single-session course is designed to give your child an overview of literary elements. It shall bolster their in-class understanding or help those struggling to grasp the particulars of literary elements such as themes, symbolism, etc.
Class experience
US Grade 4 - 7
In this class, we will give an overview understanding of the literary elements of plot, setting, character, theme, symbolism, metaphor, personification, alliteration, mood, and pattern using poetry. Using a Scholastic teaching course book, the facilitator will assist students to use close reading skills to develop their understanding of literary elements. It is my goal to allow learners to gain a greater understanding of literary elements, to develop a larger vocabulary of understanding on text analysis. This will benefit learners in being able to write more effective book reports or even help to develop stories and poems of their own.
Dee Richards is a parent and honors graduate of the University of California, Irvine's prestigious English department with a creative writing focus. Dee is currently working on her Master's in Creative Writing, and has a great wealth of knowledge in the various forms, movements, and genres of literature.
