Class Experience

Get ready for some fun using the ABCs, Colors, Numbers (1-10), and understanding Opposites to help you learn about your very own keyboard!

This one time class is generally for beginners new to piano as this serves as a brief introduction. Although not required, prior experience with a group pre-K or elementary music class or music appreciation class is a plus.

In this class we will explore the keyboard and identify the black and white keys, the music alphabet, fingering, and applying opposites to musical concepts such as dynamics and tempo. Miss Canda will also help each student identify their lowest key and highest key on their piano or keyboard as every learner's practice keyboard may vary in size.

For each topic covered the Instructor will demonstrate by example on her keyboard exercises for students to follow and practice, demonstrating a musical idea to encourage critical thinking. Class will move at a comfortable pace, and Miss Canda wants to make sure each student understands the topic before moving forward.

Learning Goals

With this primer class, students will have a better understanding of the basics of music as applied to piano - the music alphabet, black and white keys, and expressing differences in dynamics and tempo. Following the intro, it's recommended to follow up with the beginning piano class "24 steps to Middle C and Keys from A to G"
learning goal

Hi there! I offer young minds effective ways to nurture their passion for music by guiding them with patience, creativity, and compassion.

Originally from MD, I received my Bachelor's degree in Music at George Washington University and my Master's Degree in Vocal Performance at Catholic University of America in Washington DC. Since 2002 I've performed and recorded professionally and have enjoyed teaching voice and piano to children and adults for over 20 years.
It's truly rewarding for me to motivate children to think outside the box as they learn concepts of music, theory, and ear training. I teach piano for ages 3 and up, from beginning to intermediate level (up to Level 3 proficiency) as well as offer basic keyboarding (playing with chords and playing by ear). I offer private voice for all levels and genres for ages 10 and up, and group vocal ensembles or musical theatre studies for students as young as 8 years old.
