Class Experience

Hello and welcome to Theatre Play Reading Group! In this ongoing class, students will get to practice their acting skills and discover new plays each week!

At the beginning of each class, a play will be introduced and students will take turns choosing a role to read for. Because we read such a wide variety of plays in this class, students will get a chance to play many different types of characters. After choosing roles, I will share the script on the screen, and we will read the play out loud together, with everyone reading for the role they have chosen. Some students may choose to act out their roles dramatically while others may prefer to read in their normal voice - both ways are welcome!

While the goal of most theatre groups is to prepare a play or musical to perform, the goal of this class is simply to enjoy reading and acting out the scripts together. This is an ongoing class, so students are welcome to drop in and out as they are available. No prior knowledge or memorization is needed.

We will do our best to end on time, while sometimes taking a few extra minutes at the end of class to finish reading a script.

I hope this class will be a safe space for students to enjoy acting, reading, and discovering new plays!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a Bachelor's degree in theatre and have experience teaching theatre both in person and online. Online, I have directed two Shakespeare plays that were rehearsed and performed on Zoom by a small group of homeschoolers. I have also enjoyed hosting the Outschool class Theatre Play Reading Group (Ages 8-12) since 2020. In person, I have assistant directed high school students at a private school, taught a Shakespeare class for homeschoolers, and helped public school students write and perform their own play.
