In this one time class students will learn about one of the deadliest maritime disasters in U.S. history that everyone has forgotten about.

In this one time class we will put on our detective hats and explore the cause of one of the worst maritime disasters in American history. More people died in the sinking of the Saltana than the sinking of the Titanic. Why have most people never heard of the Saltana? Could the sinking of the Saltana have been avoided? When the steamboat's max capacity was 376 passengers, why was she carrying 2,128 passengers? Who were the passengers and why were they willing to get crammed onto the same boat?...
There will not be any upsetting or scary pictures or content in this lesson. The goal is to have a fun, positive and uplifting class.
