Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
One Thousand and One Arabian Nights is a collection of Middle Eastern folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age. These tales are full of adventure and magic, guaranteed to spark a child's imagination! In this class we will learn about the Silk Road, the House of Wisdom in ancient Baghdad and the story behind the epic compilation of One Thousand and One Arabian Nights. There will be a slideshow, two animated videos by Ted-ed called 'The Silk Road' and BBC-Teach called '900AD in Baghdad, History of Lost Lands'. The class will be interactive and there will be both quiz questions and opportunities for learners to ask their own questions. We will then read two short tales from Usborne's Illustrated Arabian Nights (you do not need a copy of the book as I will hold it up to the screen), discuss it using flash card question prompts and draw our favourite scene! Please bring paper and pencils/pens for this interactive class. No prior experience necessary, all are welcome.
