The Jurassic Period: Age of Giants

In this class, we will use visuals and simple language to explore the Jurassic period, a time when some of the largest animals in history ruled the Earth! We will begin with a discussion of the Triassic-Jurassic extinction; this event wiped out many fascinating animals, but paved the way for dinosaurs to diversify and grow to enormous sizes. Next we will look at the changing world of the Jurassic. During this period, the supercontinent Pangaea broke apart, separating land animals and creating new habitats. We will spend most of the class looking at Jurassic animals, including ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs in the sea, pterosaurs in the sky, giant sauropod dinosaurs like Brontosaurus and Brachiosaurus, the enormous theropods that hunted them, and more!
