In this course, students will learn how to create a 3-5 paragraph essay.  Once this skill is mastered, students can expand this knowledge into larger essays and various other types of writing.  The only background knowledge needed is the ability to formulate a paragraph.  If students are struggling with creating a paragraph, please consider taking my one-time paragraph writing class prior to enrolling in this class. Students will be guided through the steps needed to create an introduction, body, and conclusion.  By the end of the course, students will know how to organize their thoughts into a cohesive essay that follows the basic essay model. This basic format can be used to expand into longer essays, including essays with 3 or more body paragraphs. This is a great beginning course for reluctant or beginning writers.

There are NO LIVE MEETINGS in this section.  Students will check into the class on Monday for the lesson and assignment.  The assignment should then be submitted no later than Friday for evaluation and feedback. Students will submit the exercises included in the lesson and their weekly assignment in the classroom.  Private feedback will be provided to the student via video format and students will also discuss exercise responses in the classroom.

Throughout the 4 weeks, students will learn how to create a vivid thesis statement, an engaging introductory paragraph, quality supporting paragraphs, and a cohesive conclusion.  These skills can be applied to all types of writing as these are the building blocks to quality composition.  At the end of the course, students will submit an essay on a topic of their choice for evaluation.
