Summer Camp: Applying Algebra 1 Concepts (Ongoing)
Class experience
In this “drop in” Summer Camp: Applying Algebra 1 course, I will introduce a real life problem and we will work through the Algebra needed to solve the situation. We will take 2 days to introduce and finish a problem and each week will be something new. So feel free to come around any week you would like! ~~Experience with Algebra 1 concepts is not needed, sometimes it is nice to know where you might use it, but would be helpful.~~ June 1/2 - Linear Equations In Business Models We will...
#1 - Create and graph linear equations in slope-intercept form. #2 - Graph and interpret systems of equations. #3 - Translate, reflect, rotate, and dilate a geometric shape. #4 - Combine like terms. #5 - Use regressions to create a graph of “best fit” and use it to predict data. #6 - Manipulate a quadratic to discover how it reacts. #7 - Use dimensional analysis to convert and calculate. #8 - Create and analyze quadratics to find the maximum or minimum, then interpret the point. #9 - Create a quadratic to model a real life situation. #10 - Find patterns and relationships within Pascal’s triangle.
My goal is to translate the often misunderstood subject of mathematics through visuals and different but proven methods that I have gained over my 15 years of experience as a high school teacher. These concepts will range from 7th and 8th grade...
