During each class, I will read a children's book (listed below) while engaging the students with comprehension questions, interactions, predictions, and movement to develop their vocabulary and understanding of the story. The student will learn how to listen for comprehension. The student will learn how to ask and answer questions about a topic. The student will learn how to listen to follow one step directions. The student will learn vocabulary related to the owls, bats, spiders, nocturnal animals, and pumpkins. The student will practice math skills like patterning, counting, number recognition, number writing, shapes, weight, using a scale, length, sorting, and more. The student will practice letter recognition and letter sounds.
I believe reading books to children is an important way to develop their thoughts, vocabulary, sentence development, and future reading, writing, and math skills. I have been using this technique for many years to help children see how fun and enjoy books and learning can be!
