Learn what it takes to be a theatre director by studying scenes, creating a vision, and putting that vision to the stage by directing other classmates in a scene.
Class experience
A week long camp style class that would meet each day, culminating in a "performance" at the end of the last class. Throughout the week students would learn what does in to directing a theatrical production from picking a show (scene), running auditions and assessing performance, creating a vision for the script, and how to get your actors to create that vision on the stage. What a Director's job/purpose is in a theatrical production. Learn the process a director goes through from the first read through to opening night. Find out how to work with actors and encourage them to follow one vision. Throughout the workshop students also learn rehearsal and performance etiquette, teamwork and theatre terminology.
I own and am the Artistic Director of a youth based educational Performing Arts Center. We produce over 20 plays and musicals each year which I direct, produce and music direct (and build sets, create props, run tech). I also direct plays and musicals in area elementary, middle and high schools as well as teach several acting and theatre performance courses at the college level.
Materials provided through the Outschool classroom: printable scene packets to be analyzed and performed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
