Class Experience

In "Spanish Immersion Cooking & Baking Summer Camp - Strawberry Shortcake & Cream," students will make a delicious summer dessert while practicing their Spanish speaking, listening, reading, comprehension, and vocabulary skills.

Shortcake with fresh strawberries is a dessert I love to make on a hot day. Adding fresh whipped cream takes it over the top! We will make this recipe from start to finish during our class time, cutting the strawberries, preparing the cake and baking it, and making whipped cream. There are a few things that may need to be prepared ahead of time (for example: the shortening/butter should be put in the fridge beforehand so that it is cold and ready to use).

If your learner has a food allergy, you are welcome to make substitutions, but results may vary.

*Students of all Spanish levels are welcome to join, but please note that this class is 100% immersion. Students are expected to speak entirely in Spanish when answering or asking questions aloud to maintain a fully immersive environment.

How will students practice their Spanish skills?

- Students can participate in class discussion, volunteering to read from the slides/presentation, or answering questions while we cook or bake.
- Students can ask questions aloud to clarify ingredients, measurements, etc.
- Students will be given the ingredients list, supply list, and measurements in Spanish before class begins. They will need to read through the list and make sure they have all of the ingredients and supplies ready.
- Students will listen to the teacher read from the slides/presentation, go over the ingredients, tell the measurements, and give instructions on how to successfully cook or bake the food.
- Students can ask questions or share related information in the chat box in Spanish.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their Spanish speaking, reading, listening, comprehension, and vocabulary skills through cooking or baking.
