Who's ready to speak Spanish?! 😍 Who's ready to play?! 😁 Who's ready to sing and dance?! 😃 😊 This Ongoing course is the next level to the popular "Bilingual Circle Time" course. It is the perfect opportunity for students to begin taking part in Spanish immersion and truly acquire real-life Spanish speaking skills. Join at any time! 🗣 In this Ongoing course that meets 3x per week, students will talk about and answer basic questions about topics that are very familiar to them using words and sentences learned in class. 🤔 I recognize that children this age, need Spanish words and phrases to be repeated many times and to be put into context in order to incorporate them into their long-term memory. For this reason, the activities in each lesson will provide students with ample opportunity to practise the basic topic of conversation or simple phrase learned on that day. This practise, will help students develop confidence as they incorporate the language into their long-term memory. 🤩 My lessons are designed to ensure your learner remains interested and engaged, by incorporating visual aids, activities, games AND SONGS (my favorite), while the learner naturally infers meaning and progressively becomes more comfortable in speaking Spanish! The following schedule gives you an overview of just a few of the topics that will be covered in class. This schedule is subject to change if deemed necessary. In order to help my students acquire the language, I will move through the curriculum slowly and include lots of repetition, which may slightly change the pace of the class schedule: Week 1: 🙋🏻🙋🏽♀️ Meeting and Greeting new friends with Señor Ku-Kamanga (toy puppet) Week 2: 🐶🐼¿Cómo se llaman los animales?” (What are the names of the animals?) Week 3: 🎂¿Cuántos años tienes? (How old are you?) Week 4: 👍🏼 👎🏼"Me gusta." "No me gusta." (likes and dislikes - food themed) Week 5: 💃🏻 Discovering a Latin American culture Week 6 👧🏻👦🏾 ¿Cómo eres? (learners will learn to describe themselves) Week 7: 👯♂️ ¿Quién es tu amigo? (learners will learn to describe their friends) Week 8: 🇬🇹🇲🇽🇨🇦🇺🇸Culture Capsule “Flags and Their Colors” 📝📝📝A few things to keep in mind about my classroom: ✅Very little English will be spoken in this class and lots of props and TPR will be used during instructional time. ✅All students will be muted when needed, to minimize background noise. Please ensure to spend some time with your learner, teaching the mute and unmute features as I am unable to unmute them. Or I ask that you sit with your learner during class in order to provide that support. I want to make sure every learner gets a chance to speak and ask questions when it is their turn. ✅Please read the "Teacher Expertise" section below to learn more about the importance and benefits of the use of songs in the classroom. ⤵️ ✅For students who were previously in the "Bilingual Circle Time" class... "Noticia Time (News Time)" will look a little different in the Immersion Classroom. Each day we meet, only 1 student will be asked to share his/her special "noticia." I will of course, let that student know ahead of time so they can prepare, and will ensure each student gets a chance to share at least once a month. 🙂😃 I am so excited to have your child be a part of my class! Students will learn to speak Spanish, improve their speaking and listening skills, and foster a sense of community in my classroom. **IMPORTANT NOTICE - PLEASE READ!** Please take a few minutes to watch the following video on how your learner can draw on the screen while we are in class. Parental Guidance
To help parents make an informed decision about this class, I would like parents to keep the following requirements in mind:
👟 In this class we will occasionally dance, stretch and move! Due to this, please make sure your learner has plenty of space, comfortable footwear and a water bottle if needed.
✄Students who are not comfortable using scissors on their own may need adult supervision when we work on cut and paste activities. Or have the pictures/words pre-cut for your learner.
Supply List
📃 I will provide handouts from time to time. Each learner will need to have the handout ready to work on during class. 🖍✄We will occasionally be colouring, cutting and pasting. Learners will need to have crayons, scissors and glue. ⭐️IMPORTANT NOTICE - PLEASE READ! ➡️I am a certified and experienced elementary school teacher who continues to teach children ages 4-9.
➡️In my years of working with children and now, as a graduate student completing a Master's degree in Marriage and Family therapy, I know the importance of circle time as a way to provide active listening time for children. Active Listening is a specific form of communication that lets another person know that you are “with them,” aware of what they are saying, accepting of their perspective, and appreciative of their situation. For this reason, the first few minutes of class will be dedicated to listening to the students and any important "noticias" (news) they may want to share with their friends and teacher.
➡️Singing is a valuable teaching tool and an integral part of my lessons since I have found that learning a new concept through a song can be more enjoyable for children, especially for this age group. Using songs has helped my learners improve their listening skills and pronunciation; and has been useful for teaching vocabulary and sentence structures. Music offers many advantages for learning languages. Studies have shown that listening to a song and humming along can help with language learning! Listening to music also helps with memorisation because singing new words makes them easier to remember. And oh yes... I love to sing!
