Paint With Confidence Using Color Values

Students will learn about color values. An apple or a mug is not only red in color. We see some interesting colors on it as well. One may see a light red or dark red or an orange or white depending on the light. Students will learn to see colors and create them. May 1-2023 Black and white We will start with a 5-10 mins free hand drawing just to warm up. We will then talk about values using black and white. After, we will draw an object using either a picture that I will provide or looking at what I am drawing live, using black and white acrylic paint. As I will be drawing and painting with the students, I’ll guide them and they will be able to look at my drawing. We will paint an object using black and white colors and create values using black. We might continue finishing our painting at home if needed. Kids who are interested in taking their painting interest forward by creating depth in their work will learn and enjoy this class. May 8-2023 Blue We will start with a 5-10 mins free hand drawing just to warm up. We will then talk about values using blue color. After, we will draw an object using either a picture that I will provide or looking at what I am drawing live using blue acrylic paints. As I will be drawing and painting with the students, I’ll guide them and they will be able to look at my drawing. We will paint an object using blue color and create values using blue. May 15-2023 Orange We will start with a 5-10 mins free hand drawing just to warm up. We will then talk about values using orange color. As I will be drawing and painting with the students, I’ll guide them and they will be able to look at my drawing. We will paint an object using orange color and create values using orange. May 22-2023 Green We will start with a 5-10 mins free hand drawing just to warm up. We will then talk about values using green color. After, we will draw an object using either a picture that I will provide or looking at what I am drawing live using acrylic paints. As I will be drawing and painting with the students, I’ll guide them and they will be able to look at my drawing. We will paint an object using green color and create values using green. We might continue finishing our painting at home if needed. Kids who are interested in taking their painting interest forward by creating depth in their work will learn and enjoy this class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to see and analyze the object to figure out the effect of light creating darks and lights. This will help to create depth in their work. If I color a circle blue it will look flat but if I add different shades and values of blue, it will look like a sphere more like a 3 dimensional object.Other Details

I am a professional artist and have been painting for 20 plus years, enjoying and sharing my knowledge and experience with students. I teach color values using pictures of still life objects which will help students to see and observe the shapes, color values and light.
Art is about creating a piece that comes from your heart. There is no right or wrong. Lines, color harmony, shapes, effect of lights and darks, all creates form and depth in a painting.
The class will begin with short drawing and value exercises in black and white, to build an understanding of value separate from color.Reviews
