Roman Food!: Discover What the Romans Ate! - Ages 9-13

Janette Eggiman M.A.
Average rating:4.9Number of reviews:(455)
In this multi-day course students will learn about what the Romans ate and drank, how they dined, and the religious significance of food.

Class experience

Through the use of both ancient and modern literature students will learn about the food culture and culinary tradition of the Romans. These will be used to help students critically think about Roman culture and help them be able to discuss the motives, goals, and thoughts of Romans from the point of view of a Roman. For a detailed list of topics that will be covered each week, please see the outline in the "class experience" section.
I am fascinated by the Greco-Roman world; its history, literature, culture, and languages. I have an M.A. in Classics and have taught Roman history, as well as other Classics related subjects, to a range of ages and skill levels online and in a traditional classroom. This course is meant to be fun! It will incorporate a lot of literature but also a lot of material culture from the classical world.
All materials will be available to students in the Outschool classroom.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
  • Google Docs
  • Edpuzzle
  • Nearpod
The Romans artistically admired the human form, as result material culture from ancient Rome often contains nudity. Images that contain what might be considered "lude behavior" will not be included.
