Class Experience

Prior to the start of class, students will have to collect materials to build their robot. Ideas include, but are not limited to: cut out barcodes, plastic spoons, cardboard, tin foil, milk cartons. At the beginning of class, we will sort our recycled materials into categories and discuss their differences. As students begin creating their robots, we will brainstorm about what features are needed for the robots to detect garbage. Each student will get a chance to participate and share their creation. After class, students, with an adult, should take their robots along for walks with them outside and safely put any trash they find in a bag for disposing!

Learning Goals

The concept of recycling, planning, creative building, safety when picking up garbage and walking along streets

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Foreign Language from University of Washington
I am here teaching Arabic for young learners! I earned my bachelor's degree in Arabic and spent many years living in the Middle East. I engage students through play, song, and participation.

With any age, it is important not to be overwhelmed with material or flashy images on the screen, so I take great care to keep our lessons simple so they can be easily followed. Each class, we will build upon and use previous material in order for the student to gain confidence in their abilities. I try to incorporate natural materials in the class as well.

I have a preschool aged son who joins class with me sometimes! We hope to see you soon!
